Search Not Working Properly

Last updated 5 months ago

If job search isn't returning expected results, this guide will help you identify and resolve common issues.

No Results Found

Search Terms Too Specific

If your search returns no results:

  • Remove quotes - Exact phrase matching is strict
  • Simplify job titles - Try "Engineer" instead of "Senior Staff Software Engineer II"
  • Check spelling - Typos in job titles or locations prevent matches
  • Broaden location - Search by state/region instead of specific city
Filters Too Restrictive

Multiple filters compound to narrow results:

  • Remove one filter at a time to identify the culprit
  • Check salary filter isn't excluding jobs without salary data
  • Verify experience level matches your search
  • Try "Remote" without a specific location

Try Alternative Terms

Different companies use different titles for similar roles:

Try variations like:

  • "Product Manager" vs "Program Manager" vs "Project Manager"
  • "Software Engineer" vs "Software Developer" vs "Programmer"

Create separate saved searches for variations you're interested in.

Wrong Results Appearing

Irrelevant Jobs in Results

If results don't match what you're looking for:

  1. Be more specific - Add qualifying terms to your search
  2. Use filters - Narrow by experience level, job type, or industry
  3. Exclude terms - Contact support if you need to exclude specific keywords

Location Mismatch

Jobs appearing for wrong locations usually means:

  • The job posting lists multiple locations
  • "Remote" jobs appear in all location searches
  • Try filtering by "On-site only" if available

Old Jobs Appearing

To see only fresh postings:

  1. Use the Date Posted filter
  2. Select "Last 7 days" or "Last 24 hours"
  3. Save this preference in your search

Saved Search Issues

Saved Search Not Loading

If a saved search won't load:

  1. Try refreshing the page
  2. Clear your browser cache
  3. Access from the dashboard instead of direct link
  4. Delete and recreate if the issue persists
Saved Search Changed

Saved searches preserve your exact criteria. If results seem different:

  • The job market may have changed
  • Jobs you saw before may have been removed
  • New jobs matching your criteria have been posted

Can't Save More Searches

If you can't save additional searches:

  • Check your current count (shown in the saved searches panel)
  • Free users: Limited to 1 saved search
  • Premium users: Limited to 10 saved searches
  • Delete unused searches to make room for new ones

Filter Problems

Filters Not Applying

If filters seem to be ignored:

  1. Make sure you clicked "Apply" or "Search" after selecting filters
  2. Try refreshing the page
  3. Clear all filters and reapply one at a time
  4. Check if you're on the saved search results vs. new search

Salary Filter Issues

Performance Issues

Search Is Slow

If search takes a long time:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Try a simpler search with fewer filters
  3. Refresh the page
  4. Try again in a few minutes (may be temporary server load)
Page Won't Load

If search pages won't load at all:

  1. Check if other websites work (internet connection issue)
  2. Try a different browser
  3. Clear browser cache and cookies
  4. Disable browser extensions temporarily
